What is Loy Krathog?

Loy Krathong is to float Krathong (decorated basket which made from biodegradable materials such as banana trunk or bread) on a river.

What is the purpose of Loy Krathong?

People believe that Krathong floating is to let go of one's hatred, anger, impurity, and past transgression. Also, we, Thais, belive that Krathong floating is to thank the Goddess of water that she makes us have water to use in everyday life.

 

When is Loy Krathong?

Loy Krathong is always on the evening of "full moon" of 12th month according to Thai lunar calendar. So, every year Loy krathong will take place on the different date but usually fall in the month of November. This year, 2016, it will be held on November 14th.
